Learn to Read Faster

It is no secret that reading is one of the best habits anyone can build. It expands your culture, sharpens how you see the world, deepens your grasp of universal ideas, and supports mental health. You regularly hear successful entrepreneurs say they read 100 books or more every year. When I started my career I kept wondering how they found the time each day to consume that much.

Speed Reading

Hitting serious book volume every year, month, and week is more achievable than most people think. There is a practical skill called speed reading that anyone can train. It means learning to take in a full page of content without losing focus and without sounding out every single word on every line (or re-reading the same line three or four times because concentration slipped). Plenty of websites and apps exist specifically to practice this skill.

Personally I like training with Lectura Ágil and Beeline Reader.

Why I Want to Read Faster

  1. Empowerment: you feel at home anywhere.
People judge you every day by every word that leaves your mouth. In a business meeting you will hesitate to speak up if you are unsure of your facts. Reading (and truly understanding what you read) gives you raw data you can turn into real knowledge.
  2. Money: you can land better opportunities.
Money equals freedom and security for you and the people you care about. Whether you want a promotion in your current role or an entirely better job, knowledge is power. Speed reading helps you level up your education so you can handle any course load without drowning.
  3. Stronger memory: you retain more with less effort.
Speed reading does more than raise your words-per-minute. It also lifts comprehension. Once you understand why a topic or fact matters, it sticks. That improved memory spills into every other area of life. Because memory is a core part of creativity, you also become more inventive in everything you do.
  4. Lower stress: focus becomes a meditative skill.
Do you struggle to stay on one task? Information hits us from every direction and most people try to multitask their way through it. The result is fragmented attention and lower efficiency. Speed reading trains pure focus. That focus reduces stress the same way meditation does.
  5. Better problem-solving skills.
Speed reading feeds more information into your subconscious. With a richer store of material, your subconscious can surface solutions to your problems more easily.
