Help Make the World Better

Mejorar el mundo

Like many motivators, mentors, entrepreneurs, and more, you have heard me say that contributing to the world matters. That you have to give in order to receive. Yet a lot of people get stuck on the financial side of that statement. It is not about giving money so you can get money back. It is bigger than money, and it is bigger than you.

There is a saying that captures it perfectly: “The person who understands life is the one who plants a tree knowing they will never enjoy its shade.”

Here are several things you can do to make the world a little better for yourself, your family, and the generations to come, without necessarily needing money:

  1. Plant trees and plants. Not only to decorate your home. Do it in nature where it actually has an impact.
  2. Treat cleaning staff the same way you treat a CEO.
  3. Never forget to say thank you when someone helps you with something.
  4. Use less paper. If you run a company, turn it into a green, paper-free business.
  5. Do volunteer work. From time to time, help people who have less than you. It will fill you with happiness and satisfaction, and it will give you a new way to see and appreciate the world.
  6. Be generous. Stop hoarding everything for yourself and start sharing with others.
  7. Recycle your trash and your water. With climate change issues, we still have time to make a difference before it is too late for the planet.
  8. Read books. They open you to new ways of thinking, help you grow, and make you a better person and a better professional.
  9. Stop watching so much TV. Between the constant negative news, the ads that push you to consume, and reality shows that fill your mind with superficiality, you are better off turning the TV off.
  10. If you love someone, do not wait to tell them.
  11. Calculate your carbon footprint on the environment and make the changes needed to reduce it.
  12. Buy local products instead of big industrial brands. You will help small business owners put food on the table.
  13. Make donations to charitable foundations. You do not have to be rich to give. For example: One Tree Planted plants one tree for every dollar received.
  14. Buy fair trade.
  15. Help animals. I am not saying eating meat is wrong. It can be necessary for health. But show respect for animals, because they are an integral part of the environment and of the balance of life on the planet.
  16. Be an example for the next generations. Do not say one thing and do another. It matters that you set a positive example.
  17. Stay positive. The law of attraction is simple: you receive what you give, and you give what you receive. Being a positive person does not only help you directly. It helps the people around you, and they will be positive with you in return.

There are thousands of ways to improve your life, your community, your society, and the world. This list is a selection of simple things you can do regularly without having to overhaul your entire life. They are small changes that can create an incredible impact.
