Change scares people. That fear runs even deeper when it touches their habits, their way of living, and their way of thinking. Changing your habits is vital for your well-being.
We take health for granted because we only start worrying about it when we feel it slipping away from our body and mind. Health is the most important thing in our lives. Without it, the time you have to enjoy your loved ones gets cut short. The time you have to enjoy your own life gets cut short. Your dreams never become reality, and in the end you leave this world without having been able to complete your wildest projects.
A sad truth is that we only regret not eating well, not exercising, not sleeping enough, and not saying “no” to certain negative habits once we get sick.
If you think about it honestly and deeply with yourself, what could you be doing better? Why not start now?
Remember that motivation is not always inside us, and you will not always have someone behind you pushing you to make the right decisions. A healthy person is someone who knows how to get their mind right. They push themselves to do the right thing even when they have no motivation and no trusted person beside them forcing them. If you can reach that level of self-esteem and discipline, you are ready to change your habits and live a long, high-quality, healthy life.
Every change requires effort, both physical and mental, but the result is more than worth it. I can assure you of that, and it is much easier than you think.

It helps with your body’s age. Did you know that your chronological age and your body’s age are not always the same? Not long ago I had a 29-year-old patient whose body age was 49. His heart rate was very high, his blood pressure was elevated, his weight was a bit above average, and he never exercised. It took work, but after several months we started to see his body age drop from 49 to 43, and it keeps going down a little more each month.
It is very common in Latin America to see children and adults drinking sodas instead of plain water throughout the day and with meals. Changing a habit when you are addicted to a product is hard, but you need to understand that sodas come with a long list of downsides for your health. First, the sugar level is dangerous for your cholesterol and blood pressure, can lead to diabetes, and is one of the strongest drivers of childhood obesity. On top of that, drinking soda speeds up your heart rate, floods your energy reserves with more fuel than you need, and can disrupt your sleep. Remember that sleep is extremely important for your health.
Walking is excellent for regulating your body. It helps you lower your body fat percentage without huge effort, supports digestion, and is great for clearing your head and organizing your thoughts.
There are many basic everyday movements you can use instead of going to the gym. If you always take the harder path that requires more physical effort, you do not really need to hit the gym every day. About three times a week is more than enough.
Eating fruits and vegetables is very important for your skin, your organs, your blood, your digestion, your cholesterol, and a wide range of body functions that raise disease risk when you skip them. Make the effort to eat at least five a day so you get a solid dietary balance. After a few weeks you will notice the extra energy you have throughout the day.
Your body needs batteries. If you do not sleep, eating well alone will not fully recharge you. You must have dedicated time set aside for rest. You can see all the benefits of a quality night of sleep here.
Eating the right way is simple, and no, it is not expensive: it is economical. It is also delicious. If you work with a nutritionist like me, they can design tasty recipes that do not take away the foods you love. They simply adjust the right amounts each week. Being healthy does not mean spending a lot. In fact, every recipe I design for my patients uses ingredients you already eat almost every day and can find in any store.
Remember: If you do not take care of yourself, no one else will do it for you.
