How can you expect your followers to be honest when you lack these qualities yourself? Leaders succeed when they stay true to their core values and beliefs; without ethics, that simply is not possible.<\/p>\n
To lead effectively, you need enough confidence that others will follow your direction. If you are unsure of your own decisions and strengths, your team will never fully follow you. As a leader, you must inspire confidence and show a measured level of assurance that earns respect. That does not mean overconfidence, but you do need to project the degree of certainty required for people to trust you as their leader.<\/p>\n
Leaders are masters of influence. They know how to move themselves and others forward in life. To influence people, they first understand what already influences those people. They know who they are, what their “brand” is, and how others see them. As a result, they raise the standard for everyone around them. When you master influence as a leader, you unlock the greatest force for giving, creating, sharing, and contributing more.<\/p>\n
Until you clearly communicate your vision to your team and explain the strategy for reaching the goal, it will be very hard to get the results you want. Simply put, if you cannot deliver your message effectively, you will never become a strong leader. A good communicator can become a good leader. Words have the power to motivate people and push them to do what once seemed impossible. Use them well, and you will achieve better results.<\/p>\n

While many people waste precious time hunting for the “perfect” choice, a leader must be willing to draw a line in the sand and make decisions others avoid. When you do that, you positively shape your life and the lives of those around you. A leader should think carefully before deciding, but once the decision is made, own it fully. That leads directly to the next point:<\/p>\n When it comes to accountability, follow the approach highlighted by Arnold H. Glasow: “A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit.” Make sure every person on your team is accountable for their work. When they do well, give them recognition. When they struggle, help them see their mistakes and work together to improve. Holding people accountable builds a real sense of ownership, and they will take the business more seriously.<\/p>\n You cannot do everything yourself, right? A leader must focus on key responsibilities and leave the rest to others. That means empowering your people and delegating tasks. If you keep micromanaging, trust erodes and, more importantly, you lose the ability to focus on what truly matters. Delegate, watch how people perform, give them the resources and support they need, and let them take ownership of the outcome.<\/p>\n Leaders must develop empathy with their followers. Unfortunately, many still operate like dictators and ignore empathy completely. As a result, they never build a real connection with their teams. Understanding people\u2019s problems and feeling their pain is the first step toward effective leadership. Even that is not enough until you work hard to provide real solutions for those problems.<\/p>\n Your team looks up to you. If you want them to give everything, you must also be fully committed to the mission, the vision, and to them. When people see you roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, they will give their best too. That earns respect and injects fresh energy into the team, which improves performance. If they sense you are not fully committed or that your passion is missing, motivating them toward the goal becomes an uphill battle.<\/p>\n The greatest leaders in history are driven by purpose. They serve something larger than themselves. Motive matters. If your only motivation as a leader is to get people to do something for you, you may still craft a strategy that works.
