Every person opening a business already imagines themselves making millions of dollars, living a life of luxury, and running a company free of problems. It is easy to fall into the trap of those success stories we see in documentaries and movies. That can happen. But the reality is that most companies that reach a certain level of “elite” success got there after years of hard work, losses, and investments. If you are not prepared for delays (sometimes very long ones) in hitting your goals, you risk ending up as just another statistic.<\/p>\n

Now, if you are well prepared and ready to start generating money, there is no secret. Keep doing what you do, but implement strategies that let you extract more margin and increase your profits.<\/p>\n

Gradual Growth<\/h2>\n

As a new business, it is normal to picture yourself with every achievement already locked in. You focus on the final goal. But the reality is that to reach it you will have to pass through a multitude of checkpoints. Mini-goals that, once stacked, take you to the big objective. To make that happen, especially at the start of your project, many experts recommend defining a business plan. But as explained in Business Plan vs. Map<\/a><\/span>, I recommend building a map instead.<\/p>\n

Identify Your Bottlenecks<\/h2>\n

You are making money, but you believe you could be higher in sales, profits, and margins? Take time to identify what is holding you back. Is it an issue with yourself because of your limiting thoughts<\/a><\/span>? Is your sales team performing well? Does your communication lack clarity? Are you a strong leader<\/a><\/span>? Take time to analyze carefully where your problems come from so you can fix them and stop wasting time (and money).<\/p>\n

Sales Team and Product\/Service<\/h2>\n

If the problem sits inside your sales team, think about how you can improve it. Do you need to hire new salespeople with more experience or a stronger client portfolio? Do you need to offer better incentives or make cultural changes so your team becomes true fans of the business? Or is it something about your product\/service or the way you are offering it? Think of a few ways you can drive growth in that area of your business. No business is perfect. There is always room to improve these vital parts of your company.<\/p>\n

Your MAP<\/h2>\n

It is very easy to build one. Check the map example here<\/a><\/span> to create yours. It lets you break your goal into sub-goals that, once completed, will help you:<\/p>\n

  1. Open yourself to new opportunities your final goal never considered<\/li>\n
  2. Focus on processes and offers that can help you generate money to move to the next step instead of wasting time thinking about the future<\/li>\n
  3. Fix small problems that can turn into big problems later in your business plan<\/li>\n
  4. Organize your time and your teams’ time so their days and weeks deliver better performance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Keep a Record of Your Analytics<\/h2>\n

    Creating a map does not mean your company will automatically start making more money, managing time better, or selling more of your product\/service. You must track your results as your plan advances. Have you discovered how to generate sustainable profits? Have you found an effective group of people to work as part of your team? Set times when you will record and re-evaluate your progress. Maybe this is monthly, or perhaps you check every three or six months to monitor growth. What matters is that you can measure your progress and know where it comes from.<\/p>\n
